Formed around 29 million years ago in the Great Sand Sea of the Sahara, Libyan Desert Glass is a rare natural silica glass created under extraordinary heat and pressure.

Its exact formation has fascinated scientists for decades. Current evidence points towards a major extraterrestrial impact event, powerful enough to melt material at the Earth's surface and leave behind the translucent yellow-to-golden glass found across a limited area of the Western Desert of Egypt.

But its story doesn't end with geology.

Thousands of years later, a piece of this unusual desert glass was carved into the scarab at the centre of one of Tutankhamun's pectorals—connecting a material formed millions of years before humans existed with one of Ancient Egypt's most recognisable treasures.

Each OOAK piece is individually selected and sold by weight. Natural variations in colour, transparency, texture and surface markings are part of the material's character.
